FM & Phase Distortion Exploration in Serum

Just Hey everyone and welcome to another tutorial. Yeah. So, I'm really excited about everything that's going on with Stride right now. There are a lot of u active users that sending me crazy stuff that they're doing and yeah, so there have been some massive updates lately and I'm going to show you some cool stuff. I'm not going to going to build a big chain or something. It's just going to be like two or three instruments, but with a lot of parameters moving and mostly leaning onto FM and phase distortions in Serum, which is really cool.

And the coolest part is the groove that we're going to modulate the hell out of Trans Gate. And this is like the most fun I've had in grooving and stuff. And yeah, so I'll walk you through the patch. And yeah, so it's really simple. It's like basically a sine wave into another sine wave that have some spectral morph with some more harmonics. The fi Let's listen to it JUST TO YEAH. SO, pretty sick and very versatile. A lot of unexpected outcomes and yeah, Stride is here modulating everything. There are around I don't know 40 or 50 parameters in here. So, yeah.

The you will see what's modulated when we will play it a lot of stuff but the most important thing is like we fming this FMing the sub. We're going to play with the oscillators and we face distortion to the noise which has a kick signal and phase distortion oscillator B which is totally muted to the sub as well and FM from C which is now muted. Maybe we'll turn it on. And in the FX, I have some macros here with a down sample, distortion, and convolve and some more effects. And nothing too complicated, really simple. The cool stuff is the variations.

And I have here also transgate, which all these parameters are modulated. Also the divisions and we're going to play with the resolutions, the decay, the sustain and the release are also modulated and also the mix and which creates like endless groove. And yeah, let's just it's really simple and not too much like let's let's record it and have some fun and we'll see we'll move between Stride and the and the Serum and play with it. So, let's go. Sound design is exploration. Like get into it, tweak knobs, record. It can take seven 7 minutes, 8 minutes, 10 minutes, doesn't matter. It can take half an hour, but you'll get to places that you normally wouldn't get like if you would plan them. This is like total exploration and discovery and all about happy accidents.

And this is this is the mindset with Stride and this is the mindset that I have in music production in general. And yeah, enjoy.
