God-Tier Sound Design with OuterVerse & Stride
18:42Watch on YouTube
Most producers spend hours manually clicking automation points to get movement. In this session, I use the Stride Engine to manipulate the OuterVerse device chains, creating infinite textures and "pure chaos" stabs that would be impossible to draw by hand.
Whether you produce Psytrance, PsyBass, Techno, or Electronic Music in general - this method allows you to treat your DAW like a generative sound design machine.

Them and hit mutate to get different variation but kind of similar. Take the chaos and maybe stretch it a lot. So we can have this kind bring a lot of stuff out of this one rack. NICE. AND THROWING THEM ON THE GRID next to each other. And then I'm going to record everything while I'm jamming. Now what I'm going to do is basically really interesting concept. I'm going to make four different MIDI clips.
Each one of them will have different automation. Okay guys, so I got this Ableton racks from Outerverse. FM which is pretty awesome. They've put a massive and really amazing work in these devices. And today I'm going to show how Strum and these racks can make like really immersive and complex and versatile sound design session really quick. So, let's just dive into it. Okay, so let's pick one of these abstract leads. Let's say this one. Okay, so this is the rack without any modulation and what we're going to do is the usual stuff. We're going to map everything.
And let's take let's say one up so we can jam with it. Let's say this parameter the second oscillator. I will just map it to one of my knobs so I can play with it and maybe also the rate of that. Okay, let's let's figure it out as we go. So, we mapped everything and we do the usual stuff. We drag the MIDI to user library. We launch Stride. We are scanning the rack. And now we have all the macros. So, now what I'm going to do is basically really interesting concept.
I'm going to make four different MIDI clips. Each one of them will have different automation characteristic. What does it mean? One of them will be really choppy. One of them will be really buildish, let's say. Really lush. And let's just dive into it. So, let's apply some chaos on all of them. And let's take the depth all the way. Apply to clip. Now, let's shuffle them and hit mutate to get different variation, but kind of similar. Now, let's create chaos, let's say. Really choppy. And now let's just take the chaos and maybe stretch it a lot. So, we can have this kind of manipulation.
And now what I'm doing is I'm just taking them one by one. And throwing them on the grid next to each other. And then I'm going to record everything while I'm jamming. And it's going to bring a lot of stuff out of this one rack.
Okay, let's record it. Okay, so we got this kind of nice glitchiness. Let's do the same thing. Let's keep this audio chunk. Let's just duplicate it. Cut it into half and keep both of them. Okay. Now, let's just pick another one. Let's take this one. Really unique stuff. OKAY, REALLY UNIQUE STUFF. I JUST MAPPED THEM. Dragging into user library. And basically what we're doing is like pressing again scan map, so I can get the new rack replace. Now I get the new parameters, the new macros. And basically what I can do, I can just press save session, call it let's say sunrise by outer reverse.
And then I'll just have the rack and I didn't and I don't need to drag it once again to use the library because I have the sample the template, sorry, just right here and I can press load and I get it. So, same concept. Let's do it. Just apply some nice curves. Let's select all and mutate it and shuffle it. The idea is to just get the most versatile that you can. So then you can record and have really nice and unique patterns. And we're doing the exact same thing. Just basically you want
So nice. Okay, let's again pick one or two parameters so we can jam. Let's say this oscillator and let's say the filter and now I can jam with these two knobs while all these macros are just running in different ways. I don't make I want to make another round with this and let's say that we are mapping Actually, the wave and then we can just play with a kind of wave.
Okay, so we have these ones as well. And we just keep going. Let's pick another one. Mhm, let's say nice. Very nice work from these guys, really. Let's get in the new rack. Let's apply some curves. Yes. Let's drag them into the arrangement view.
NICE. REALLY NICE GLITCHES. LET'S TAKE one curve. And So basically prism the this feature is like it's saying take the X axis and Y axis and make them all be coherent in all the lanes, but the way between two X points just make them versatile. Like they will get in the same peak as you can see here the first in the first bit of the second bar. They're all picking, but each one of them having a different curve until it gets to this peak point. So it's also really nice. Let's apply one of them. And listen to it. Really nice squishes.
Okay, so this is enough for the first session and we'll get part two very soon.
