Gnarly FX and Sound Design with Multiband Saturation

Hello guys and welcome to another one. So today we're going to explore some of multiband saturation techniques. Like the interesting stuff with Stride is that you take a concept and then you just push it to the edge. And you get really, really interesting stuff when you take simple concepts and just take them to the edge. So then you can record and use this stuff later and it also sounds like not like a generic stuff.

And simple waves waveforms or whatever. So let's just dive in. Stride also have the new mode where you can see more parameters in one screen we'll see today. So Serum is just a trigger Serum is just a trigger. Let me make sure it's on. And yeah basically I want to add some grit to it. So I'll just add this little spike at the end of the wave. And now what we're going to do we're going to use only we're going to do nothing in Serum. We're going to use only Saturn and OTT at the end of the chain.

Just to balance things. And what we're going to do with Saturn you can do it with all every multiband saturation you have. It doesn't have to be Saturn. It's just the idea. But with Saturn you have a lot of interesting styles of distortions and saturations and you have this each band you can just set for each band how much you want the bass, mid, treble, or presence for each band.

So, what we going to do we going to modulate all these tones for each band and modulate the styles for each band. So, imagine that the sub getting one style and the mids getting another style while all their treble {slash} mid {slash} bass Let's say let's call it an EQ or filtering because if I take the mids down all the way I'm filtering the mids out and if I take them up so I'm boosting them.

So, this is what we going to do. We're going to modulate also the feedback and the frequency of each one of them and we going to have a lot of interesting outputs from here from it. So, let me just do it real quick. We map all of them with a feedback and the frequency and the style. I'm just pressing the menu and pressing one of the styles while the mapping is working and then it's also modulating the style itself.

So, we going to we going to do the same for this band and we going to do the same for this band. We can also play with the with a drive and dynamics and mix but I'm keeping it out for now because this is already a lot of parameters. And a really interesting stuff is to play with the envelope of the of the trigger of the of the signal of the of the source itself. We're going to dive into it. Let me just crank the mids a little bit and reduce the highs in the OTT just so we get I don't want to modulate it.

Just so we get a little sub more subtle outputs. And let's hear how it sounds. I just apply the sample and hold for now, and let's hear it. So, a lot of this sound is coming from the feedback and from the frequency of each band. And it's really nice because it's not a sine wave at all. I'm just using the plugin and the device itself to really hear what's what's inside, what its parameters can bring to the table.

So, what I'm going to do, I'm also going to play with the envelope and with the arpeggiator in the signal. And also, also, I'm going to play with the ranges of each one of these parameters as long as it play just to hear new interesting stuff. Play it back.

So, basically it's endless and you can keep going putting more effects after that using more feedbacks and keep it evolving, change the original input and signal that you are inputting to the multiband saturator.
